Sunny, Scenic Summertime Driving

,

Classic Car at Crescent Beach

It’s that time of the year again when sunny days and warm weather are becoming more frequent, which means saying goodbye to driving around with our windows rolled up and the heater turned on!

Whether you are an avid lover of all things automotive, or someone who views cars simply as a means of travel, we can all agree that driving is so much more enjoyable when it’s a beautiful, sunny day.

Just take a moment to picture this: a scenic winding road, the cool summer breeze in your hair, your favourite song playing on the stereo, and a certain special someone riding shotgun. Who wouldn’t enjoy something as simple and beautiful as that?

One of the great things about living in coastal British Columbia is the fact that there is no shortage of scenic roads for those who are willing to explore. With so many coastal roads, park passes, mountain climbs and back roads, there is a little something for everyone, whether you only have a few hours free, or an entire day.

We’ve compiled a collection of nice routes that will allow you plenty of time to stop and admire anything that may catch your eye along the way!

Wonder What 1894 Was Like? See the Stewart Farm

,

Ever wondered what life was like for the early settlers of BC’s Lower Mainland back around 1900? The past comes alive at the popular and Historic Stewart Farm in Surrey, where period-costumed guides and a picturesque farmhouse area around the Nicomekl River bring you back to the Victorian era, circa-1894.

Just imagine stepping out on the verandah of an elegant Victorian farmhouse. There’s pie in the oven, tended by a lady who looks like she stepped out of an Anne of Green Gables novel. Wandering over to the pole barn, you look over farm implements and try to guess what they were used for before the age of tractors and mechanized combines.

Close to there, you come upon the old Hadden crab boat, where you start learning about the story of oyster farming and crab fishing along the Nicomekl River and Crescent Beach. Filled with nostalgia and feeling revived by the fresh air, you come upon heritage gardens filled with Scarlet Runner beans, heritage roses, snapdragons, calendulas and sunflowers – in the midst of dozens of varieties of heritage apple, plum and pear trees.
